Future Of Augmented Reality Is Going to Transform eCommerce

The world is going to take a new step in Virtual Reality and 3D model era, and place the remarkable technology in the e-commerce platform. This year Shopify United announced their first step to becoming a 3D enabled e-commerce platform. In addition to this, they are adding new partners who will help the merchants to create 3D models of their products. Also, they will find new ways to reach their audiences using augmented reality. This will turn future of AR into reality.
But, how will e-commerce reach their potential goal? How will a person with zero knowledge or a person who is a web designer or an app developer who never done 3D before use such a product? They begin to enable them to create 3D models. E-commerce platform such as Shopify is creating a real opportunity to deliver value to the merchants and their customers.

Improving the In-Store Experience
In a report, 61% of consumers stated that they prefer stores that offer AR experiences, and 40% of consumers would pay more for any product they have the chances to experience through AR. For example, there is an app named Lacoste AR that enables customers to try on shoes. 
There is a shop named American Apparel which is a clothing brand enables a shopper use app to scan a picture of signage. The app would then pull up product details, color variants, pricing and also include customer reviews.
Another shop named Topshop from Moscow, Russia used Kinect to create virtual fitting rooms. This helps them to attract customers who enjoy using AR while shopping.
In-Store Experience to Consumers’ Homes
Augmented Reality has proven methods to bring the in-store experience into life with virtual reality. Rather than consumers visiting the store, AR allows them to experience the product and services from their home. Lifestyle brand Magnolia Market created an app which allows their customers to see how their products will look in their home. They partnered with the Shopify AR team to incorporate this technology into their app.
This technology has enabled the brand to extend their reach to new potential customers.

Augmented Reality into Actual Products
​Many brands have gone far to incorporate AR into the actual product to enhance the shopping experience.Adidas launched a line of amazing sneakers that can be used to unlock an AR in the customer’s home. After buying the sneakers, a person can take the shoe home and hold it up to their computers webcam. It could read the embedded code on the tongue and customers would find themselves a virtual world which they can navigate using shoe as a controller.
BIC made an app for their young customers with their BIC KIDS DrawyBook. Children would color on paper and their drawings would come to life on a tablet through AR.
Building Brand Awareness

Some brands have taken this AR Approach to building a buzz and brand awareness.  One of the big examples is a gear brand Moosejaw which introduced other technology for customers to use at home. Their goal was to create delightful customers with their mobile app. This app had a quarter of a million downloads and drove a 37% increase in sales.Augmented Reality enables consumers a fun and unique shopping experience, and companies’ e-Commerce stores have had some of their busiest weekends ever.
